Issue 50
Welcome to your March Stakeholder Update.
DSO event
Dear stakeholders,

This month we are delighted to invite stakeholders to attend Electricity North West’s Distribution System Operation Conference: Voice of the North West, taking place on 23 April at the INNSiDE Manchester Hotel. This event presents a unique opportunity for us to come together, collaborate, and co-create strategies that will drive innovation and sustainability in our region's energy landscape. Throughout the event, you'll have the chance to engage with industry leaders, Electricity North West experts, and fellow stakeholders.

In March we held the inaugural meeting of our new digital futures advisory panel. Find out more by visiting our advisory panel pages on our website. The panel ensures customer and stakeholder engagement is helping to shape our delivery of our digitalisation and data strategies and commitments.

For all our partners, the Take Charge partner pack is now available. The pack has been developed for partners to share and raise awareness of the Take Charge fuel poverty support along with a selection of promotional materials and ideas for social media posts.

This month we also share details of £300,000 of funding secured from Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) and we're proud to announce a pioneering initiative to enable flexibility service providers (FSPs) to maximise routes to participate in flexibility markets. We recently showcased our innovative technology and future investment plans to a prominent group of MPs from around the country.

You'll find more information on these and other stories below.

SIF
£300k win for projects to help reach net zero
Electricity North West has secured £300,000 funding from Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) to carry out feasibility studies into two potential ground-breaking projects which will help accelerate the region to net zero.

CoolDown will explore the impact of increasing use of air conditioning in homes and offices on the power network. The project will explore the opportunities for flexibility to help balance electricity demand throughout the day, reducing the requirements for additional expensive infrastructure. Check out: CoolDown (enwl.co.uk)

LDES NODE will analyse technologies, such as pumped hydro, hydrogen, compressed air and batteries, to assist with long-duration energy storage (LDES) and produce a tool to identify optimal locations on the network for their installation. Check out: LDES NODE (enwl.co.uk)

These projects are funded by energy network users and consumers through the Strategic Innovation Fund, a programme from the UK’s independent energy regulator Ofgem and managed in partnership with Innovate UK.

Electricity North West, Piclo & Electron announce partnership to maximise market access for flexibility
Electricity North West is proud to announce its pioneering initiative to utilise both the Piclo Max and ElectronConnect platforms to enable flexibility service providers (FSPs) to maximise routes to participate in flexibility markets.

This strategic approach will see Electron serving as the core market platform for Electricity North West to tender and trade flexibility services, offering an end-to-end solution for FSPs to participate; from onboarding through to dispatch and settlement. Additionally, providers will have an alternative access point through Piclo Max, further removing barriers to entry for participation in the market.

This pioneering collaboration will make Electricity North West the first Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to bring together these two platforms to simultaneously maximise both functionality and routes to access these markets for FSPs.
